When the Claude Code SDK auto-compacts the conversation context, the
compaction summary tends to drop the agent's learned <message to="…">
wrapping discipline. The destinations table is still populated and the
system prompt still lists them, but the behavioral pattern degrades —
A2A sends and multi-channel routing silently revert to bare-text or
single-channel delivery for the rest of the session, until the next
/clear.
Three small changes wire a reminder back into the live query when this
fires:
- New `compacted` event on ProviderEvent. Distinct from `result` so it
doesn't mark the turn completed or get dispatched as a chat message
(which is also why "Context compacted (N tokens compacted)." stops
appearing as noise in user-facing chats — it was a side-effect of
reusing the result event path).
- ClaudeProvider yields `compacted` instead of `result` for the SDK's
compact_boundary system event.
- Poll-loop's event handler reacts by pushing a system-tagged reminder
back into the active query when there are >1 destinations. Single-
destination groups skip the push since they have a fallback that
works without wrapping.
Tests cover both branches (multi-destination → reminder fires;
single-destination → no reminder) using a CompactingProvider that
emits the new event mid-stream.

When a multi-destination agent receives an inbound message, the model
had no explicit guidance about which destination to address by default
and would sometimes pick the wrong one — e.g. Casa replying to the
admin's group questions in Laura's DM instead of in the group itself.
The formatter already injects `from="<destname>"` on every inbound
<message> tag (formatter.ts:184), so the origin is right there in the
prompt — the system prompt just never told the agent to use it.
Added one line to buildDestinationsSection() that nudges the agent
toward replying via the same destination the message came from, with
an out for explicit cross-destination requests ("tell Laura that…").
Single-destination groups are unaffected (they take a separate
short-circuit path with a fallback that auto-replies to the origin).
Tests cover the multi-destination, single-destination, and
no-destination cases.

PR #2259 (Baileys v6→v7) was merged into the channels branch instead of
main. PR #2260 was merged into main 28s later assuming v7 was already
in place. The v6 pin survived in three sites while the WhatsApp adapter
copied from origin/channels at install time was already on the v7 LID
API, breaking every fresh migrate-v2.sh run at 2c-install-whatsapp with
TS errors on remoteJidAlt/participantAlt/lid-mapping.update.
Bumps the pin to 7.0.0-rc.9 (the version v1 has been running on for
months) in:
- setup/install-whatsapp.sh
- setup/add-whatsapp.sh
- .claude/skills/add-whatsapp/SKILL.md (install instruction)
package.json + pnpm-lock.yaml are not touched here — install-whatsapp.sh
mutates them at runtime via pnpm install with the corrected pin.

The promotion logic (overwriting CLAUDE.md when a group becomes main)
is unsafe. Real-world setups use is_main for groups that intentionally
lack admin context — e.g. a family chat (whatsapp_casa) with 144 lines
of custom persona, PARA workspace, task management, and family context.
Overwriting based on missing "## Admin Context" would destroy user work.
register.ts now follows a simple rule: create template for new folders,
never touch existing files. Tests updated to verify preservation across
re-registration and main promotion scenarios.

When a non-main group is re-registered with --is-main, the existing
CLAUDE.md (copied from global template) lacked admin context. Now
register.ts detects this promotion case and replaces it with the main
template. Files that already contain "## Admin Context" are preserved.
Adds tests for:
- promoting non-main to main upgrades the template
- cross-channel promotion (e.g. Telegram non-main → main)
- promotion with custom assistant name
- re-registration preserves user-modified main CLAUDE.md
- re-registration preserves user-modified non-main CLAUDE.md

Adds 5 tests verifying the template copy and glob-based name update
logic introduced in the parent commit:
- copies global template for non-main groups
- copies main template for main groups
- does not overwrite existing CLAUDE.md
- updates name across all groups/*/CLAUDE.md files
- handles missing template gracefully (no crash)

When registering a new group, create CLAUDE.md in the group folder from
the appropriate template (groups/main/ for main groups, groups/global/
for others). Without this, the container agent runs with no CLAUDE.md
since its CWD is /workspace/group (the group folder).
Also update the name-replacement glob to cover all groups/*/CLAUDE.md
files rather than only two hardcoded paths, so newly created files and
any future group folders are updated correctly.

Scheduled tasks that send messages via send_message (IPC) instead of
returning text as result left the container idle for ~30 minutes until
the hard timeout killed it (exit 137). This blocked new messages for
the group during that window.
Root cause: scheduleClose() was only called inside the
`if (streamedOutput.result)` branch. Tasks that communicate solely
through IPC (e.g. heartbeat check-ins) complete with result=null,
so the 10s close timer was never set.
Fix: also call scheduleClose() on status==='success', covering both
result-based and IPC-only task completions.

Two bugs in the DM with dedicated bot number setup:
1. The skill asked for the bot's own phone number to use as the JID.
But from the bot's perspective, incoming DMs appear with the SENDER's
JID (the user's personal number), not the bot's own number. The
registration must use the user's personal number as the JID.
2. DM with bot (1:1 conversation) should use --no-trigger-required, same
as self-chat. A trigger prefix is unnecessary in a private DM.

The pairing code was only emitted to stdout, which is buffered by the
calling process and not visible until the auth command exits (~120s).
By also writing to store/pairing-code.txt the moment the code is ready,
callers can poll that file and display the code to the user within seconds
instead of after the 60s expiry window.
Update the add-whatsapp skill instructions to use the background +
file-poll pattern instead of waiting on buffered stdout.

Wrap the inner message processing loop in a try-catch to prevent a
single malformed or edge-case message from crashing the entire handler.
Logs the error with remoteJid for debugging while continuing to process
remaining messages in the batch.

WhatsApp wraps certain message types in container objects:
- viewOnceMessageV2 (listen-once voice, view-once media)
- ephemeralMessage (disappearing messages)
- editedMessage (edited messages)
Without calling Baileys' normalizeMessageContent(), the fields
conversation, extendedTextMessage, imageMessage, etc. are nested
inside the wrapper and invisible to our direct field access. This
causes these messages to be silently dropped with no error.
- Import and call normalizeMessageContent() early in messages.upsert
- Use the normalized content object for all field reads
- Add mock to test suite
